Yeoh Siew Ching Malacca Trip Review

Good evening everyone, I am Yeoh Siew Ching here to share about my experience during the class trip to Malacca on 4th- 7th November 2013. It was a wonderful trip indeed because this is my second time step into Malacca. Plus, the experience was totally different from the first time I visited Malacca. Basically, through this trip, I get to experience the original “Kampung Lifestyle” in Malacca and discovered many things that I never heard and experience before in my life. First of all, share to you mainly the activities that carried out in the Homestay Villa Sri Pinang.

Firstly, the “Bendang Walk” was my best experience and I think to most of my coursemates too. This is the time where you will definitely get your shoes dirty with mud. Lesson learnt from this activity was we must adapt ourselves to the any environment, try our best in getting through the tough and challenging journey. Besides, I have the chance to cycle around the village and seeing the lifestyle of every house that I passed by. I would like to say this awesome experience would definitely couldn’t be find in the big city.

During this trip, we do not forget in sharing our kindness and loving to the poor and unfortunate one. Twelve packs of 5kg rice were donated to the selected villagers and I think the donation will more or less help them to cut down on their burden.

During the trip, I have learnt how to cook “Asam Pedas ala Melaka” which is among the most famous traditional dish in Malacca. Appreciate the recipe being told and also the moment where my group cooked the best “Asam Pedas” among all. Haha. Also, special thanks to the guys who helped to collect the coconut from the tree and show their strength in cutting coconut. Again, I am very appreciate that moment where every one of us gathered along and enjoy the food and drink in front of us.

Continue with the visit to Malacca city, few photos to share here. I was impressed with the mural drawing on both sides of buildings during the journey on the water cruise. The next one is the panoramic view of Malacca UNESCO World Heritage City on the ride of “Menara Taming Sari”.

Next, a short visit to the Desa Paku Malay Traditional House has made me discovered a few things that impressed me a lot. I get to know the concept of the “Garden in the House” where the owner made his own perfume by using the natural flowers from his own garden outside his house. There are variety flavours of natural perfumes with variety types of flowers. It creates a nice and natural aroma in the house which making the guests feel refreshing.  Moreover, the owner also introduced the miracle fruit to us. Miracle fruit is something like a berry, when eaten, causes sour foods  like limes subsequently consumed to taste sweet. The last one is the “forbidden fruit” where it is hardly find nowadays.

Last but not least, I would like to end my Malacca review with this group photo. A big thanks to all the committee members in making this trip a successful one.

Looking and waiting for the next trip with our beloved lecturer Dr. Shahrim and all our coursemates too. Thank You

Good evening everyone. I am here to share some of the nice experiences which will be stay in my heart forever. We are so glad to have the chance to pay a visit to Malacca in this mid-term break at 1st November 2013. Without furthermore description, let's photos and some words describe the nice memories in Malacca. A photo represent thousand words, right?

1 November 2013

Today was the day that most of the Food Service Management students looking forward and waiting for. We were going to a trip namely “Food Exploration: The other side of Malacca”. We gathered at Serumpun College’s bus stop at about 2.30pm. After a short briefing by Syamimi about the sudden changed tentative, we departed from UPM at about 3.00pm. The road was so jam until the 2 hours journey became about 3 hours journey. We arrived safely at Malacca at about 6.00pm.Jonker Walk was the first station of the day.
Durian puff. The paste ooze out once I bite.

Chicken rice balls. First try on this.
Visit and shopping to San Shu Gong and shop for souvenirs.

2 November 2013

We woke up at 6am and departed to paddy field after breakfast. This was my first time to walk on this muddy land and paddy field. Although it was quite tiring, but I did enjoyed the moments with my coursemates.
Such a good and unforgettable memories!!

We also learned how to cook "asam pedas ala Melaka" with the helps of villagers.

"Asam Pedas Ala Melaka"
They blended with dried chilli together with some curry powder, shallots and onions results the paste which was then used to cook the asam pedas. Garlic and onion were fried until golden brown and there was nice aroma, curry paste was put in. Stirring during the cooking process to enable even cooking and prevent over-cook, suitable amount of asam water was added intervally. The “asam pedas” was tasted to ensure the sourness reached the  appropriate level. Okras were added at the final stage.

3 November 2013

Today, we went to Pantai Klebang. Here, we have been taught about when was the suitable period to catch “udang geragau” which was used to make “belancan” and “cencalok”. After that, we dropped by at a stall and shop for the local, fresh homemade “cencalok” and dried salted fish.

Displayed Submarine. Wow!!

After that, we went to pay a visit at the submarine museum. The displayed submarine was a training submarine used by Scorpene class crews in Royal Malaysian Navy. The aim of this visit was to enhance our awareness towards the national defence and proliferates the knowledge of national defence plus the function of submarines.

We also went to Macau Gallery which is situated in Bukit Peringgit in Malacca. It is a double storey complex showcasing the best of Macau. Macau shared a lot of similarities with Malacca in the terms of culture and architecture. There are a lot of Straits-themed tiles gracing the floors and beautiful Siamese architecture, the gallery is so beautiful.

Our dinner was spicy but delicious "ikan bakar". I was just able to taste little only due to the spiciness.  I loved the clamps the most. The sauce accompanied it was marvelous!!

4 November 2013

Last day at Malacca before we departed back to UPM. Before we departed, we have the chance to visit to Desa Paku Malay Traditional Home. I have learnt that men and women should sit separately in Malay house where women were sit more nearer to the kitchen. Besides, the foods prepared by the host were so delicious and were the most mouthful and tasty foods of the trip!! Conclusion, I love to travel and of course, looking forward to this kind of course trip for the upcoming semester. One suggestion for the improvement, that is I think that management level should discuss and well prepared before the trip. They should have plan properly and communicates with the homestay before the trip. Anyway, a nice trip indeed and I enjoyed it!!
